The Connection Between Sugar, Inflammation and Immunity

In our latest blogs, we’ve been talking about all things immune-related and how to protect yourself from any disease that’s going around. One impactful thing you can do is to reduce your intake of simple sugars.

More Sugar, Less Immunity

Published research supports that with more sugar comes less of an ability to fight off sickness. The intake of regular sugars, which is essentially the same as your typical table sugar, significantly reduces phagocytosis. This is a fundamental immune function of the body. As a result, this chronic sugar intake will produce a decrease in your overall immune function, giving you a greater risk of developing an infection.

Simple sugars cause inflammation to develop in your body. If you’re a patient at our office, you’ve probably heard quite a bit about reducing inflammation. Inflammation is implicated not just in reduced immune function but in cases of heart attack, stroke, cancer and obesity.

Not sure where your inflammation levels are at? Inflammation testing is available at our clinic to find out where yours is. Plus, you’ll get useful information on how to reduce inflammation and sugar intake, which will boost your immune system.

Be Blessed,
