Sciatica Treatment

lady on couch with low back painPain, numbness, tingling that travels from the lower back down one or both legs, a sharp burning sensation. If you experience any of these symptoms, you likely are dealing with sciatica, which is a common type of pain mainly affecting people between 30 and 50.

What Causes Sciatica?

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in your body, becomes irritated. This nerve originates in the lower back and runs through the buttocks and down the leg to the foot. The nerve also runs past the sacroiliac joints, where the pelvis and tailbone come together.

Misalignments between the pelvis and tailbone, or misalignments in the lower back, can cause sciatic nerve irritation, resulting in debilitating pain, walking with a limp, and numbness and tingling in the legs and in the feet.

Sitting for extended periods of time can cause sciatica or aggravate it if you’ve already got it. A disc herniation or a disc bulge are other culprits that can cause sciatica. If the disc herniation or disc bulge is in the wrong spot, it can affect both sides simultaneously, so it is possible to have sciatica in both legs at the same time.

At our practice, we also sometimes see pregnant women with sciatica due to the baby being in the wrong position, which can put pressure on the nerves on both sides as well.

How Chiropractic Helps

Chiropractic adjustments are highly effective when it comes to alleviating sciatica. That’s because adjustments remove the irritation—the pressure from the nerves—either in the low back or in the pelvic area.

Dr. Kriva’s Personal Testimony

I had sciatica for seven years, and nobody was able to help me with it; nobody was able to figure out what was causing the problem, even though we tried medications and imaging and everything else.
Dr. Kriva

It wasn’t until Dr. Kriva was referred to a chiropractor who figured out what was causing his problem and finally got rid of his sciatica after those seven long years. Dr. Kriva’s remarkable results were what got him started on the journey to becoming a chiropractor, and he finds it tremendously rewarding to help others through chiropractic the way he was helped.
