Do You Know How Sleep Affects Your DNA?

Did you know that your brain and the electrical waves that are generated by the brain can impact the expression of the DNA in your cells? This is a brand-new field of study called epigenetics. This field focuses on what can influence the expression of DNA in the body. How we think and how we perceive our environment can change the specific expression of the DNA in our cells.

Recharge Your Brain’s Battery

According to some recent research that was done at the University of Wisconsin, we know that when we sleep the flow of electrical energy and neurons in our brain reverses. It goes in the reverse direction the way it normally does when we’re awake.

This recharges the neurons and gives them a new electrical charge. It’s like recharging a battery. Then it’s this electrical energy that the brain uses throughout the day to manage the expression of the DNA in our cells.

Here’s the Point

If you don’t get enough sleep you don’t recharge the battery. Over time if you’re not getting enough sleep the battery starts to run down. It can negatively impact the expression of DNA in every single cell in your body. If you hadn’t had a good night’s sleep the night before and you have to go through a day without that benefit you know what that feels like and it affects you everywhere in the body.

Your energy levels, strength and the ability to do what you want to do suffer. It’s because of this connection. You’ll find that maintaining your sleep is vitally important.
