Being in Pain Makes It Tough to Sleep Well

We often hear from patients that they can’t sleep due to pain. When we’re up and moving during the day we have large nerves that come from the joints and the muscles and areas that are moving in our body that have very strong signals; these signals tend to block out the pain signals.

When we go to bed at night, we stop moving when we try and fall asleep. All of that blocking information that came from the muscles and joints goes away and what comes through loud and clear are those pain signals in those small nerves.

As a result, those pain signals keep going. You know when you’re in pain it’s impossible to fall asleep. If you do fall asleep you end up waking up right away. How to get out of pain? Getting adjusted on a regular basis is extremely helpful.

How Chiropractic Can Help

We find that particularly our maintenance patients or those who finally get under care sleep really well. They’re not experiencing the kind of pain that’s interrupting their sleep. Exercising and stretching are helpful too. Heating and icing are effective as well.
